Political Scientist, Prof. Gyampo has asked Government to desist from appointing people still schooling into top government positions.
This call by the University of Ghana Lecturer comes a day after government released a statement placing a ban on foreign trips for appointees.
According to the statement, the ban is aimed at “minimizing disruption to Government’s domestic work”.
The foreign Affairs Mnister was the only government appointee exempted from the ban placed on travels.
Reacting to the ban, Prof Gyampo noted that it is a great initiative by the government and needs to be adopted by subsequent governments in order to protect the country’s purse.
He noted that government should lay down stringent measures to ensure that the ban is adhered to.
The lecturer mentioned that there is the need to check Ministers who travel abroad for lectures.
He advised that government sacks them and appoint people with requisite qualification to handle various top positions in the country.
He said “only Ministers who have the requisite qualifications should be appointed, not those who would want to use the opportunity given them to acquire degrees”.
