Veteran journalist, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako Junior has described the sacked Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante Apeatu as one of the Ghana’s best police officers to have headed the service but is sad he was relieved of his duties 24 days to the expiration of his contract.
He believes the contributions of the ballistic scientist to the police administration makes him one of the best if not the best in the history of the service yet some persons have thrown that away just because of a political event.
“He is one of the best we have had in this country’s police history. All that is thrown away and they look at a political event depending on the colour of the administration and we use it to judge”, he revealed on Peace Fm on Wednesday monitored by MyNewsGh.com
He recounted how some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) disagreed with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo when he first appointed him as Police Chief upon assumption of office in 2017.
“You remember the noise that was made during his appointment on social media especially from the camp of the NDC. It was about Rawlings 14 minister and the rest because he was the Director CID at the time. You remember the serial killing of women? Are you aware that investigation was under his leadership? There are people who have all sorts of perceptions about him forgetting his stature as a professional policeman”, he disclosed on the show.
The Editor-In-Chief of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper however believes he is not the first victim to have suffered such an unfortunate situation as many have found themselves in similar cases.
“Now he is out and his Executive Secretary is also out, those controlling the Police Service do we know their political affiliation? They have but professionally they cannot display so far as they wear the uniform and still in service”, he bemoaned.
