Kumasi, Feb 6, GNA-The Saint Paul's Co-operative Credit Union on Sunday honoured 11 of its members for their meritorious work, which has helped tremendously the development and growth of the union. The award winners comprising nine men and two women received honours in 10 areas, namely the regular saver, highest shareholder, highest saver and outstanding staff.
The other categories were best loan re-payer, outstanding board member, most dedicated members, outstanding loans committee member, outstanding education committee member and outstanding supervisory committee member.
Each of the award winners received a brief case and undisclosed amount of cash for their dedication, commitment and hard work. Besides the award winners, the union also gave each member 50,000 cedis as their Christmas package besides the normal dividends.
Madam Georgina Asantewaa, one of the women award winners and a trader, who joined the union over eight years ago, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said until she joined the credit union, life was unbearable for her but she now felt much more comfortable as she was now capable of paying her children's school fees and other expenses without much difficulty.
She therefore, appealed to people who did not know about the usefulness of credit unions to join, since apart from assisting a member at any difficult times, it saved people from losing their money through thefts and disasters.
