Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram Constituency has called on Ghanaians to come together to help refugees in the country.

According to Sam George, supporting the over 13,000 refugees in the country will go a long way to provide critical lifesaving assistance and protection for them.

The UNCHR on November 10 organized a ‘Step for Safety walk’ a UN Refugee Agency’s campaign in Ghana to call on Ghanaians and other stakeholders to campaign for the over 24 million people who have been forced to flee their homes across Africa.

The ‘LuQuLuQU’ campaign strives to empower refugees and shed light on the incredible resilience refugees demonstrate.

It also aims at transforming public perception of the over 24 million African men, women and children who have been forced to flee their homes because of conflict or persecution.

The walk is taking place across participating countries in Africa with the first having been organized in Nairobi, Kenya.

During the walk in Ghana, Member of Parliament for Ningro-Prampram appealed to every Ghanaian to support the refugees in the country.

” …I believe it’s a worthy course we have over 13,000 refugees in Ghana and all of us could be refugees, it just one wrong move that could lead to all of us to become a refugee. So if there are refugees in the country today, it is extremely important that we all contribute our little bit to support them", he said

Sam George also called on government to “ratify the two conventions on statelessness so that we can have a seamless integration of some of this refugees into our local Ghanaian communities”.
