Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, and his two deputies have been summoned by the Police CID for questioning over the alleged criminal comments said to have been made by the party chairman in a leaked audiotape.
The three national officers have since 10:00am Wednesday been at the Police CID headquarters in Accra waiting to be ‘interrogated’ over the leaked tape which the party said claimed was doctored despite an earlier admission by Kwaku Boahen that it was authentic.
Our correspondent Bright Addo reported a while ago that Sammy Gyamfi, Kwaku Boahen and Godwin Ako Gunn claimed they do not know why they have been invited by the Police CID.
“I asked Kwaku Boahen and he said he doesn’t know why he has been invited. They are being careful not to say anything. He said they will only talk after the meeting,” our correspondent said.
They have thus declined interviews on the invitation.
But our correspondent said information gathered suggests the three executives were invited in connection with the leaked audiotape.
With them at the Police CID headquarters are their lawyers, former Attorney General Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong and Tony Lithur.
“Nobody has attended to them yet; they are at the reception waiting to see the charge officer,” Bright Addo reported few minutes to midday.
Background
On the leaked audiotape, the voice was heard allegedly plotting with NDC communicators to create insecurity in Ghana.
Again, among other things, the voice was heard encouraging the party members to embark on a smear campaign to paint President Nana Akufo-Addo as a violent person.
While the New Patriotic Party has called for the resignation of the NDC party chair, the NDC has accused government of bugging its office to record the audio and doctoring same to put them in a bad light.
NDC’s claim has since been denied by government
