Sanitation day flops at Koforidua

The Koforidua Municipality recorded the lowest turnout of participants ever since the inception of the National Sanitation day by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.

As at 07:00 hours when all the departments within the municipality were supposed to assemble at the Jackson Pack to take up their cleaning tools and instructions from the committee in charge of the exercise in the municipality, there was just a handful personnel around.

Many shops in the central business area of the municipality were opened as early as 07:00 hours and doing brisk business, even though they were expected to take part in the exercise.

By mid-day, only a few choked gutters had been desilted, whilst at the main Kumasi lorry station, the various driver Unions swept and cleaned their station.

The Zoomlion Company staff with their trucks went round the municipality clearing all the refuse and debris dumped by the road side.

A resident, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency on anonymity, indicated that, he had anticipated the low turnout due to the fatigue and stress many public servants went through in the preparation and observation of Ghana’s 58th independence anniversary.
