Sawla, Oct 26, GNA - The Sawla-Kalba Constituency of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has elected into office a 14-member executive committee, to run the affairs of the party in the Constituency for the next two years.
The constituency executive which is headed by Chief Iddi Angaawmini were re-elected into office unopposed. Swearing in the members, the Northern Regional Secretary of the party, Alhaji Umaru Yussif, urged party functionaries to embark on serious membership drive, to draw more people into the party. This he said would propel the party into victory in the 2012 general election. He cautioned that the election would be crucial due to the marginal difference between the NDC and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the Election 2008.
Alhaji Yussif said it was necessary for party functionaries to work hard to woo members from other political parties into their fold. The District Chief Executive, Mr Shakour Alhassan Bukari called on the executive members to maintain peace and unity within the party and be transparent in their dealings. He said the Assembly had started a 39 bore hole- project and a six classroom building, a library and a staff common room for the Tuna community.
Mr Donald Dari Soditey, Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency thanked all the delegates for working hard to bring the party back to power. He lauded the dynamism of the youth of the party for marching the NPP boot by boot to ensure victory for the NDC. In an interview, the MP said the party was making efforts to open up the National Youth Employment Scheme, to cater for the majority of the youth in the District who were unemployed and empower them through other models like, the Youth in Agriculture Project, Community Police and Information, Community and Technology training. 26 Oct. 09
