Caterers of the school feeding programme in the Ashanti Region have vehemently denied cooking unwholesome meals for pupils, as reported by the Auditor General.

The caterers strongly disagree with the report, describing it as a hoax.

Addressing a press conference on Friday, July 19, 2024, Dorothy Ofori Sarpong, Secretary of the Progressive School Feeding Caterers Association of Ghana (POSCAG), stated that the findings in the Auditor General's report do not accurately reflect the situation on the ground.

Dorothy Ofori Sarpong explained that teachers, students, and even the caterers eat the same food, emphasizing that they prepare the meals well, knowing they also consume the meals prepared by them.

However, she admitted that the food served to students is often in small portions due to the limited amount paid by the government.

The caterers categorically said they prepare nutritious food for the pupils but can only serve larger portions if the government increases the funding.

They urged the government to reconsider the amount allocated in the programme to ensure the caterers provide more substantial meals.
