Scrap dealer jailed 20 months for stealing

A 19-year old scrap dealer who resides at Konkomba Market in Accra has been sentenced to 20 months imprisonment by the Winneba District Magistrate Court for unlawful entry, unlawful damage and stealing.

Abdul Wahab pleaded guilty to the charges and was convicted on his own plea by the court presided over by Isaac Oheneba-Kufour.

Prosecuting, Police Detective Sergeant Wie Bernice told the court that, the complainant, Mr. John Ehun a teacher, resides at Gomoa Pomadze.

He said on the January 24, 2019 at about 1300 hours, Wahab was met by a group of people who also reside at Gomoa Pomadze, carrying a 43” Samsung flat screen Television on his head and holding a white sack containing DSTV, Multi TV decoders, a DVD player, an extension board and a TV antenna booster all valued at GHc 2,800.00.

She said the people became suspicious and arrested him and when he was questioned, he admitted stealing the said items from the complainant’s house near the Ahmadiyya Mission at Gomoa Pomadze.

According to the Prosecution, the accused person led the group to the scene and showed them the ladder he used to climb into the house through the roof of the kitchen where he gained access to the hall to take the items.

The group then called the complainant who came later to the scene and identified the items as his and then took the accused person together with the exhibits to the Winneba Police Station to lodge a complaint.
