Security forces at the Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) demonstration in Accra on Wednesday expressed their displeasure about the unruly behavior of some of the demonstrators. AFAG, a pressure group organised the demonstration dubbed: “Aagbewor” (They are killing us), to protest against what they termed the hardship imposed on Ghanaians by the ruling National Democratic Congress and the unprecedented levels of corruption.
The demonstration was set in motion at the Obra spot at Kwame Nkrumah Circle and ended at the Arts Centre Park, at the Accra business district.
Speaking in an interview to Ghana News Agency, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, Greater Accra Regional Police Commander explained that some of the demonstrators deviated from routes designated to them and this posed a challenge to the police.
He said despite these hitches none of the demonstrators were seen engaged in violence, which ensured a peacefully protest.
DCOP Yohuno said the security services were fully prepared for the activity to prevent any misconduct on the part of the demonstrators.
More than 200 security personnel were deployed for the about 5000 demonstrators.
