The Minister of the Interior, Henry Quartey, has disclosed that close to 90,000 individuals have applied to join Ghana's various security services, following the closure of the recruitment portals on Tuesday, August 13, 2024.

The recruitment drive, which began on August 7, 2024, was conducted by the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana Prisons Service, and the Ghana Immigration Service.

Speaking in an interview with Joy news, Henry Quartey expressed his surprise at the overwhelming response from applicants, many of whom had previously shown interests in joining the security services in 2021.

"As of two days ago, there were close to 90,000 applications. That is the report I received from the security agencies handling the recruitment," he stated.

Despite the high number of applications, Henry Quartey noted that the number of available positions is limited.

Parliament has approved a budget that allows for the recruitment of approximately 12,000 new personnel across these services.

The minister emphasized that the recruitment process will be highly competitive, with agencies applying rigorous eligibility criteria to select the most qualified candidates.

"All these 90,000 will be subject to the security agencies' criteria to determine who qualifies for admission," Henry Quartey added.
