Having lived for eight decades and spent five of them in active politics, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s impact and contributions have spanned areas including law, governance, education, and public service locally and internationally.
These contributions over the years have been recognized in various ways, most significantly through the award of five honorary degrees to President Akufo-Addo by various esteemed institutions of higher education.
Fort Hare University South Africa:
In May 2016, President Akufo-Addo was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Law in recognition of his legal and political leadership.
A lawyer by profession, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has his name etched in the annals of Ghana’s legal history. He has provided private and public service in the fight for and delivery of justice.
He served as Attorney General from 2001 to 2003 and Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2003 to 2007 in the Kufuor-led administration.
University of Liberia
In December 2017, the University of Liberia awarded Nana Akufo-Addo an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree for his contribution to governance and public service.
University of Cape Coast
In May 2021, the University of Cape Coast conferred President Akufo-Addo with an honorary doctorate, acknowledging his efforts in promoting socio-economic development.
Sorbonne University, France
On October 10, 2022, Sorbonne University presented President Akufo-Addo with an honorary doctorate, recognizing his commitment to democracy in Ghana.
The award also recognized his contribution to peace in West Africa and his leadership in implementing the Free Senior High School policy by his government.
Valley View University
Valley View University presented President Akufo-Addo with the most recent honorary degree on July 14, 2024.
The award was in recognition of his dedication to national development and academic excellence.
