It appears the ruling New Patriotic Party has started the much-talked about house cleaning after the massive defeat it suffered in the just-ended December 7, 2024, general election.

The party has expelled 280 of its members in the Agona West Constituency in the Central Region.

A notice of the expulsion addressed to the General Secretary of the party, Justin Frimpong Kodua (JFK), which was issued by NPP Agona West Constituency chairman Alhaji Gibrine Tanko, indicated that 280 people forfeited their membership in the course of the 2024 general election by engaging in anti-party behaviours.

“The decision follows several complaints received from other party members against the said persons for:

Standing as an independent candidate against the officially elected parliamentary candidate of the Party.

Joining or declaring their support for another Political Party.

Supporting an independent candidate in the just-ended December 7, 2024, parliamentary election in Agona West Constituency.

Continuously demonstrating such character against the party in every election year,” parts of the notice reads.

The list of party members expelled, which was attached to the notice, included the Member of Parliament for Agona West and former Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Cynthia Maamle Morrison.

Also on the list are executives of the party in the constituency, including the party’s electoral area executives.

After losing the NPP parliamentary primaries for the constituency, MP Cynthia Maamle Morrison contested in the 2024 parliamentary election for the Agona West Constituency.

The other party executives and members expelled are believed to have supported her re-election bid as an independent candidate.
