Sefa Kayi, Adom Otchere and other notable personalities who cease to be board members following dissolution

President John Dramani Mahama has announced the dissolution of board memberships for statutory boards, corporations, commissions, and councils, with individuals appointed by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo or a Minister of State ceasing to hold office.

Under the new directive, it appears that several notable and controversial Ghanaian personalities, whose appointments to those positions sparked controversy, will lose their positions as board members of key state institutions and corporations, in line with the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845).

Their tenure per the letter ended on January 7, 2025, after the presidential transition.

GhanaWeb looks at some of these notable personalities whose tenure as board members ceases.

1. Stephen Ayesu Ntim

The New Patriotic Party Chairman was, until the new directive, the Board Chairman of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA).

The politician had been appointed by former President Akufo-Addo in accordance with constitutional requirements and was sworn into office on May 21, 2024, by the then Minister of Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.

2. Kwami Sefa Kayi

The renowned media personality was also a member of the board of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA). He was sworn into office on Friday, August 6, 2021, following his appointment by Akufo-Addo.

Sefa Kayi, upon assuming the role, was responsible for overseeing activities of NPA which include Bulk Distribution Companies, license issuances, fuel stations, among other duties.

3. Paul Adom Otchere

The media personality assumed the role of board chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) following his appointment in September 2021.

He previously served as a board member of the National Communications Authority.

4. Elizabeth Ohene

Elizabeth Ohene, a journalist and former Education Minister assumed the role as the Board Chairman of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).

She was part of a 13-member team inaugurated in August 2021 by the then Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.

4. Kwaku Sakyi Addo

Ace broadcaster and communication specialist, Kwaku Sakyi-Addo, was appointed as the board chairman of the Minerals Development Fund on September 20, 2021, to find innovative ways to generate funds to help develop the various mining communities in the country.

He also served as the Board Chairman of the National Communications Authority (NCA) in 2017.

5. Kwame Baffoe

The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party also known as Abronye DC was appointed as a member of the Tema Oil Refinery board in March 2024.
