Sekondi Constituency of NPP elects new officers.

Sekondi, Sept. 19 GNA - Papa Owusu Ankomah, Minister of the Interior, has called on political parties to train and create job opportunities for their youth.

He said lack of employment and educational opportunities would not encourage them to adopt dialogue to settle disputes and misunderstandings they might encounter. Papa Ankomah made the call at the elections of new officers for the Sekondi Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at Sekondi at the week-end.

He said the youth who constituted majority of the country's population, could not continue to "rely on old ideas in the present competitive world.''

Papa Ankomah who is also the MP of Sekondi said the youth must be introduced to fresh ideas and opportunities. He noted however, that most of the youths were frustrated due to the pressures of life and advised them not to resort to violence in their demand for services and other amenities.

Mr. Peter Mac-Manu, Western Regional Chairman of the NPP asked the youth to join hands and make election 2008 a success for the party. He urged the executives to intensify their outreach programmes and bring back dormant members.

Mr. Mac-Manu advised the leadership of the party to recognise and honour individuals who sacrificed for the growth of the party. Mr. Peter K. Gyamfi was elected as the Chairman, Mr Tony B. Baffoe as first Vice Chairman and Mr Joseph Ackon as Second Vice Chairman. Others were Mr. Michael B. Mensah, Secretary, Mr. Dominic Arthur, assistant secretary.

Madam Diana Hayford was returned unopposed as Treasurer, Ms Felicia Ansah as Women's Organiser, Mr Ato Dadzie as Youth Organiser and Mr Ebo Daniels as Circuit Organiser. 19 Sept.05
