Sekou appointed Acting National Coordinator of NYC

Accra, May 18, GNA - Dr Sekou Nkrumah, son of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana's First President has taken over as Acting National Coordinator of National Youth Council (NYC).

A statement issued in Accra on Monday and signed by Ms Sarah Obeng, Public Relations Officer of NYC, said Dr Nkrumah took over from Mr Archibald Donkoh, who resumed his original position as Deputy National Coordinator in charge of Finance and Administration. It said Dr Nkrumah was determined to increase the rate of public awareness of youth activities and promote private sector participation in youth development. The statement said Dr Nkrumah was hopeful to develop a strong and disciplined youth imbued with the spirit of nationalism and a sense of public service.

"He is optimistic of direct government involvement in youth development affairs for the benefit of youth of Ghana with a big desire to elevate the state of the Youth Leadership and Skills Training Institutes as well as the Youth Resource Centres across the country," the statement added. Dr Nkrumah is a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) holder in African Literature from University of Bucharest, Romania and founder of a Youth and Sports Development an NGO and former Vice Chairman of Ghana Chess Association. He was former Executive Director of W.E.B. DuBois Memorial Centre for Pan African Culture.
