Members of Concerned Citizens of Sekyere Afram Plains in the Ashanti region have expressed fears of a possible cholera outbreak in the district.

Residents in the area, according to the group, depend on a stream as their only source of water for drinking and domestic use owing to lack of potable water.

The district has 95 communities and Drobonso the capital, is the only community with two public toilets which is also in a dilapidated nature and produces a stench.

Mr Boakye Yiadom, chairman of the concern citizens, told Adehye FM's Elisha Adarkwah in an interaction on Wednesday, 28 February 2018, that residents in the rest of the communities find a place of convenience in the surrounded bushes.

He, however, expressed fears that with the rains set to set in, the human excreta in the bushes will wash into the streams to bring about cholera outbreak in the district.

Beside, road networks connecting to the various communities are also in bad shape and will therefore be difficult for them to transport patients to the hospital.

He, therefore, appealed to government to come to their aid by connecting the newly mechanised water in neighbouring Kumawu to the communities of Sekyere Afram Plains to boost construction of toilet facilities in other to prevent the cholera outbreak in the area.
