Self-Inflicted indiscipline is destroying CPP - Dr Delle

Ho, Dec. 16, GNA - Dr Edmund Delle, National Chairman and Leader of the Convention People's Party (CPP) on Saturday stated that the Party was being torn apart by a self-inflicted cancer of indiscipline and destruction.

He observed that party members, especially elected and appointed officers, had either abandoned the pledges they made to delegates at the respective conferences that elected them or decided to undermine the cause of the Party without recourse to rights and responsibilities of membership.

Dr Delle said this when addressing a day's workshop for the Party's Regional Steering Committees in Ho.

The event was the fourth in a series of capacity building workshops under the Political Parties Programme in collaboration with the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy and the Institute for Economic Affairs.

He noted that groups had been formed outside the formal structures of the Party and were engaged in activities that were causing disaffection among the rank and file.

Dr Delle stated that the creeping wave of press statements calling for the removal of the leadership and positive action to force Congress, coupled with 93background intrigues=94, were denting the Party's image instead of promoting it.

He condemned the recent advertiser's statements in the Daily Graphic by the Patriots and Council Elders of the Party, which called for 91positive action' by party members, especially the youth and described the action as very unfortunate.

He held that the action only intended to impugn the integrity of the Party's Central Committee (CC) and portrayed the elected national officers as the sole causes of the woes of the CPP.

Dr Delle said the CC and the leadership would therefore not tolerate acts that are intended to undermine the internal cohesion of the Party and entreated all well meaning members to work within the formal structures of the Party with due recognition to the democratic and constitutional rights of elected officers.

"I urged you all to remain focused and uphold the spirit of the CPP Constitution because what is before us calls for a concerted action", he said.

Dr Delle announced that the Party was embarking on an innovative approach such as the organization at the polling station and electoral areas from January to March next year to make election of party executives easy.

He said activities will include mobilization, registration and called on party functionaries at all levels to start planning how they were going to work.

Professor Nii Noi Dowuona, General Secretary of the Party, said evidence on the ground indicated that all was not well with the Party. He said the time of apportioning blames had passed, adding that the Party's abysmal performance at the various bye-elections should bring all factions together for a new CPP. Mr Prince Ahiadzro, Volta Regional Chairman of the Party, said Ghana was in crisis and therefore needed a bold political restructuring, bringing on board Dr. Nkrumah's CPP with selfless, dedicated and sincere leadership to redeem the economy. 16 Dec. 06
