Self-styled hairdressers lowering standards

Mrs Eva Dagodzo, the President of the National Association of Beauticians and Hairdressers (NABHA), Volta Region, has cited service fee undercutting by quasi-hairstylists as a major setback in quality control in the sector.

She was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) during a skills upgrade workshop for selected hairdressers and beauticians across the Region in Ho.

Mrs Dagodzo, said the practice was for these non-regulated hairdressers to undertake jobs at prices totally not commensurate with the cost buildup of service based on best practices.

He said their pricing presupposed that they hardly used the right quantities of hair products and in their proper mix.

Seventy hairdressers participated in the training going on across the country in batches, under Council for Technical and Vocational Education (COTVET)/Skill Development Fund (SDF) collaboration.

Besides entrepreneurship, participants were taken through revision lessons on hair styling, facial treatment, body massage, pedicure and manicure.

Mrs Bertha Gakor of EDC Consult in Accra, Workshop Facilitator, urged participants to have self-confidence, be assertive and persist in their business activities.
