Senior High Schools need STX Housing intervention

Keta, March 1, GNA - Mr Dzidzeme Senanu-Kwao, the Headmaster of Keta Senior High School, has appealed to the government to extend the STX Housin= g Scheme to Senior High Schools which are facing serious accommodation problems.

He made the appeal at the School's 58th Founders' and Awards Day celebration at the weekend at Keta.

Mr Senanu-Kwao said only 27 of the 80 staff members of the school were accommodated on campus with the rest scattered in town in frustrating situations. He said though the student population had increased to 2,623, with 749 fresh students admitted this year, facilities had not expanded. He said the fresh students did not have a single classroom and despite improvising for them as demanded, the situation remained critical and appealed to the authorities to expedite action on the proposed new six-unit classroom to ease the problem.

Mr Senanu-Kwao said the school does excellently academically and in other activities and commended the PTA and Old Students for their support. The theme for the anniversary was 93Giving Back to Your Alma Mater"= .. Mrs Bridget Katsriku, Executive Secretary, Public Services Commission, an old student, called on the old students, parents and the community to do more for the school as government alone cannot adequately provide the quality equitable education required in the country.

She urged the students to eschew all vices, stick to their books to realize dreams as the future leaders of the country. About 200 students received book and cash prizes for hard work while some retired tutors received cash and electronic appliances in reward for their services.

Sod was also cut for a library complex for the school to be borne by the Old Students Association.
