It is interesting as to how some persons within the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) could go after persons helping President John Dramani Mahama to deliver the Better Ghana Agenda.
Some ministers and other government appointees have been at the receiving end of dirty hounding all because they are working in tandem with what the President wants.
One of such ministers is the Finance and Economic Planning Minister, Mr. Seth Terkper, an otherwise hardworking, gentle, but tough minister.
The year 2014 was indeed terrible for him as the forces within the NDC party and the government that wanted him out were just too much.
In fact, there were well-orchestrated machinations against the minister, whom the President himself had time and again expressed confidence in him. Persons like Dr. Kwabena Adjei, former NDC Chairman, Mr. Mahama Ayariga and Allotey Jacobs, all strong faces in the ruling NDC, would not allow the minister to work.
The vicious agenda against the finance minister was thick that some journalists, who claim to have unalloyed love for the NDC, were roped in to hound Mr. Terkper out. Shockingly, Mr. Jacobs, who at the time described Mr. Terkper as the 'Judas' in NDC, is today claiming that the minister is a 'Special Assistant' to God.
According to Mr. Jacobs, Mr. Terkper has worked so hard to make the Ghana Cedi strong against the U.S. Dollar. He went on to say on Peace FM's morning show Kokrokoo that "it is only a fool who does not change his mind." It is not surprising that events are turning this way at all.
Mr. Terkper's crime has always been that he is overly protecting the national kitty. He has plugged all loopholes and avenues that people were hitherto using to lick the nation's cash with impunity.
Mr. Terkper is not allowing officials of the ministry to turn themselves into consultants to milk the ministry dry. Mr. Terkper is not allowing ministers to presents bills without asking the relevant questions before payments are effected; Mr. Terkper treats all and sundry equal and does not have special dispensation for anyone.
With his tough stance, some party officials, his colleague ministers; ganged up against him but could not succeed because his decisions and actions emanated from cabinet and his appointing authority. Those who attacked the sober-headed minister forgot that it was a direct attack on Mahama's administration for overly protecting the public purse.
Once Mr. Jacobs has seen the light and appreciates the good works of Mr. Terkper, it is not late for the others, who were pursuing the heinous agenda to do same. After all, "it is only a fool who does not change his mind," just like Mr. Jacobs said.
