Seven JHS receive Laptops in Kassena Nankana and Builsa District

Mrs Elizabeth Amoah –Tetteh, a Deputy Minister of Education, has presented 178 laptops to seven basic schools in the Kassena Nankana and Builsa Districts.

Each of the junior high schools received 24 laptops. The schools include, Tedam Junior High, Kolgo JHS, Basina JHS Navro-Pungu JHS, Amenga Ete-Go JHS in the Kassena East District and Sandema Preparatory and Kadema JHS schools in the Builsa District.

Mrs Amoah-Tetteh said the presentation formed part of the government’s manifesto launched on the Basic School Computerization project to enhance teaching and learning.

She said the Ministry of Education had fully paid rLG, a communication and Mobile Phone Assembling Company contracted by government to supply of 60,000 pieces of the laptops.

Out of the number, 40,000 had been supplied and delivered to the Ministry of Education for distribution of which the three regions in the north are expected to receive 9,600 pieces.

Mrs Amoah-Tetteh said supply of the total package cost government GH¢30million and appealed to heads and Directors of Education to ensure the Laptops were used for the purpose for which they were procured.

“School Heads should not lock them up with the aim of keeping them safe and they are not allowed to be moved outside the school premises” she said.

Ms Fauziatu Salifu Sidii, ICT Coordinator, said 400 basic schools in the three northern regions were expected to benefit from the project.

Ms Sidii said, the project would be scaled up when improvements was seen and also when more school infrastructure is put in place to satisfy the growing needs of schools.

Mr Paul Apanga, Regional Director of Education, thanked the MoE for the computers and rLG for bringing the computers to the door steps of the schools as well as providing training to enhance skills of the teachers.

Miss Felicia Amangure , a form two student of Basina JHS, thanked the government and said hither-to she had learnt ICT without seeing a computer and this made the study of the subject challenging. **
