Sex Workers Invade Sunyani

Even before President John Evans Atta Mills and other dignitaries leave their cozy homes in Accra and journey to the Brong Ahafo regional capital, Sunyani, to attend the much-talked about National Delegates’ Congress of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), commercial sex workers across the country have already taken the lead.

Information gathered by The Chronicle newspaper indicates that though delegates of the congress are yet to arrive to occupy their respective hotels, the sex workers, who arrived in the Sunyani township a couple of days ago elegantly dressed, have started moving from one hotel to the other, looking for business.

Apart from the commercial sex workers, other business entities are seriously preparing to do brisk business during the period of the congress. Hotels and Guest House operators have so far been the major beneficiaries of the congress, as all their rooms have been fully booked.

Some house owners, who have houses in prime areas such as Berlin Top, South Ridge, SSNIT Flat and Airport Residential Area, have also commercialized their private houses and rooms, and are charging exorbitant fees, ranging between GH¢40 and GH¢500 for two nights.

Sunyani has been given a major facelift, as all the major streets have been provided with lights. Both international and local media houses have also invaded Sunyani in droves to prepare for the congress.

The Regional Minister, Kwadwo Nyamekye Marfo, has prayed against any rainfall during the congress period. For now, the entire country waits patiently to see how the NDC comes out of this contest.
