Sey says NDC needs young entrepreneurs

Mr George Ekow Sey, National Democratic Congress' (NDC) Greater Accra Regional Youth Organizer aspirant, has promised to establish a “business youth” for the party.

Mr Sey said it was his vision for the NDC youth in the region to become entrepreneurs.

He told the GNA in an interview that empowering the youth and creating entrepreneurial opportunities for them would help "the youth to wean themselves off this God fatherism we are having now."

The 34-year-old former treasurer of the NDC Tema West constituency said the youth must not only be seen as useful for mobilizing themselves for election activities but also economically productive and self sufficient

He expressed regret that some youth joined political parties to enable them get positions but became dejected after losing such positions because of lack of entrepreneurial skills.

Mr Sey, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Translogg Limited, said to be able have information on the skills of the youth in the NDC in the Greater Accra Region, he would collaborate with the constituency and branch organizers to develop a data base on its members.

The data would be segmented to reflect the four major communities in the Greater Accra Region.

The four communities are industrial, fishing, rural and elite communities.

Mr Sey said visits he paid to these communities revealed that the youth in each of them had different needs, problems as well as skills.

He stated for example that youth in the fishing communities could be empowered to create supply chain jobs such as preparation of shito and other products with the fish for the market.

He commended the incumbent NDC Regional Youth Organizer for doing his best to unite the youth but emphasized that the party currently neede a vibrant and proactive youth organizer.
