Takoradi, Dec.21, GNA - The Shama-Ahanta East Metropolitan Assembly (SAEMA) has embarked on a Zone Improvement Plan (ZIP) Code Street Addressing Project estimated at about 5.2 billion cedis. Mr Kwabena Darko-Mensah, Chairman of the Street Naming Committee, announced this at a meeting of stakeholders of the project at Takoradi on Tuesday.
He said the assembly had awarded the project on contract to ASI ZIP Codes Company Limited.
Mr Darko-Mensah said Anaji Electoral Area was used for the pilot project six months ago.
He said the assembly had decided to auction 500 to 1,000 streets within the Metropolis to mobilise funds to finance the Project. Mr Darko-Mensah said streets would be auctioned for not less than six million cedis and individuals, institutions, organisations and companies that won the bids would name and maintain them.
He said prospective bidders must not have criminal records, not below 18 years and must show evidence of having paid basic rates for at least five years.
Mr Kofi Bempah, Managing Director of the company to undertake the project said it had numerous benefits to the Government, the public, local business community, foreign companies and tourists. He said the major beneficiaries were tax collectors, utility companies and postal services agencies. Mr Bempah said the project would make it easier to locate residents and their homes.
