Shortage of TB drugs at Tarkwa Hospital

Tarkwa, Feb 10, GNA - The Wassa West District Hospital at Tarkwa has run out of drugs tuberculosis drugs for two and the situation has made the defaulter rate to shoot up.

This development would affect the district's health directorate's campaign on tuberculosis.

The Acting District Disease Control Officer, Mr Lambert Ankoma, confirmed the shortage of the TB drugs.

He said for two months now his outfit has not been able to supply drugs to patients in the seven sub health districts of the Wassa West District.

Mr Ankomah said due to intensive outreach programmes more people have been detected as having TB.

He said last year 408 people were detected as having the disease out of which a few are on drugs while the majority are on the waiting list.

Mr Ankomah said his outfit detected 19 TB patients in January. About 21 people died of TB while 58 completed treatment last year.
