Provost for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Prof. Charles Marfo, has called for the dismissal of Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Commission, Emeafa Hardcastle, over her altercation with the Member of Parliament for Nsawam Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh.
According to Professor Marfo, should investigations prove that the CEO disrespected the MP in parliament, then President John Mahama needs to show leadership by showing her the exit door in his administration.
He explained that Mahama has warned his ministers about disrespect, and as a result, this should set an example after investigations.
Speaking in an interview on Oyerepa TV on January 30, 2025, he stated, “One thing that President Mahama told his ministers during the swearing-in ceremony was humility, and that day the way he emphasized it, I am of the conviction that the first minister that he would sack would be out of disrespect to the public.
“And I think if it is true, then the first appointee of his that he will sack is she.
“If the Speaker calls her and she is found guilty of disrespecting Annoh-Dompreh, it will be an opportunity for John Mahama to show leadership and withdraw from the position he gave her.
He should set that precedent for the appointees to know.”
A video of the incident, shared by Channel One TV, shows the MP taking offense at Hardcastle’s description of his caucus in Parliament as "micro" during a sitting of the Appointments Committee on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.
In response, the Minority Chief Whip allegedly threatened to take action against Hardcastle. However, she did not take his remarks lightly and later referred to him as "silly."
