'Shut up', if you have nothing to say to Ghanaians - NPP Chairman tells Mahama

The newly elected Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Mr. Divine Agorhom, has advised former President John Mahama to emulate past Presidents of the Republic and act as a Statesman.

Mr. Agorhom said it's rather unfortunate that whenever ex-president Mahama gets the platform to speak to the good people of Ghana, he always end up either insulting, disrespecting or abusing them in one way or the other.

"If you don't have anything reasonable to say or contribute to the development of the nation, its better you shut up or stay indoors instead of always taking undue advantage of situations to re-launch your dead political career," he said.

Mr. Agorhom made these statements when he led thousands of party faithfuls in a keep fit exercise dubbed ONENESS WALK, which was organized by the greater Accra regional NPP to unite their fronts after a successful delegates’ conference.

These statements appear to be a direct response to statements attributed to former president Mahama which was supposedly made in Kumasi during the NDC'S unity walk last weekend.

Mr. Divine Agorhom further stated that, the fight against illegal mining popularly referred to as "galamsey", though a source of livelihood to many, has serious and dire consequences like the pollution of our water sources, degradation of land, associate diseases and sicknesses and ultimately the loss of lives.

"It will be recalled that many, including our Ashanti Regional Chairman, Chairman Wontumi, got his mining equipment and assets destroyed by the Mahama administration for engaging in small scale mining. If not pure mischief, hypocrisy and deceit, why will this same man, who supervised such act criticize the NPP government for addressing this very same issue they failed to solve?" he rhetorically asked.

He said the Akufo-Addo government unlike former president Mahama and his administration has drafted a comprehensive document to tackle the issue holistically as well as proposals to provide alternative source of livelihood to the affected.

"The Akufo-Addo government has always demonstrated his willingness and commitment to work hard towards addressing the numerous challenges facing this country. The free SHS, 1D1F, planting of food and jobs, NEIP and the latest, Nation builders corps, launched today by his Excellency the president of the republic, which is to engage 100,000 graduates who would have been home and wallow in unemployment but for this intervention is an indication that the government, the NPP government is here to serve the people of Ghana."

He called on Ghanaians to threat the comments made by former president Mahama with the greatest of contempt it deserves and called on all well-meaning Ghanaians to join hands and support the government fight the galamsey menace.
