Seasoned journalist Kwesi Pratt has expressed outrage at statements suggesting that the NPP Running Mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, being from the Ashanti royal lineage, is a good reason for the party to win the December 7 general elections.

Speaking to host Nana Yaw Kesseh on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" show, Kwesi Pratt quoted a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who made such a remark on a radio station while praising Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh on his appointment as Running Mate.

He reported that this royal member, whose name he withheld, had argued for NAPO, stating he is an Asante royal, hence complimenting the NPP for accepting him to partner with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

But to him, such remarks are distasteful and a threat to Ghana's democracy.

"Since when is being an Asante royal now the qualification for the position of Vice President? I am ashamed. It disgusts me because Ghana is a Republican State, and it's not royalty that makes a leader in this nation. In fact, when you speak like that, then you are undermining our constitutional democracy," he exclaimed.
