Sinohydro pledges support to Bui communities

Mr Chen Qiumin, the Unit Chief at Sinohydro Ghana, has reiterated the company’s commitment to supporting the people of the New Bui communities where it operates.

Presenting some items to the inhabitants of the New Bui Community at Bui, Mr Chen said the donation was an expression of the cordial friendship that existed between Sinohydro and the community.

He said the Central Government, the Bui Power Authority, and the Bui Community, in particular, had accorded them a very warm reception since their arrival in Ghana, saying, “We are very happy to work and live here.”

In line with the commitment, Sinohydro has undertaken several corporate social responsibility activities, as part of its work, including the employment of about 6,600 people during the execution of the project, and the training of local labourers.

Sinohydro has also built a resettlement area and schools for the communities that were displaced because of the project.

It has also on other occasions, donated food items, desks, badmintons, basketballs, footballs and soccer jerseys to surrounding schools in Jama, Bui, and Bamboi, among others.

Mr Chen said the company had a very good relationship with the community and continued to cement that relationship daily, adding that, while the Chinese workers of Sinohydro had learned some Twi words, the children and students of the villages could say ‘Long Live Ghana-Ghana Friendship’ fluently in Chinese.

He urged the people to continue to work peacefully with them to build the Bui community during their stay.

Items presented to the community included 150 tubers of yam, a sack of cassava, bags of rice, canned drinks, five footballs, 240 notebooks, 36 boxes of notepaper, pens, exercise books and 36 soft-letter notebooks.

Nana Kwadwo Wuo II, the Chief of Bui, who received the items on behalf of the communities, commended Sinohydro and the Chinese Embassy for its continued support for the communities through its CSR activities.

He, however, called on them to adopt the schools in the community and equip them with computer laboratories to enable the children to become computer literates because it was very integral to their success in the technological era.

Nana Wuo also entreated Sinohydro to mechanise the boreholes in the communities to facilitate access to clean water and to construct toilet facilities in the schools.
