GENERAL SECRETARY of the NPP Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie aka ‘Sir John’ descended heavily on the MCE of Ejisu/Juaben, Afrifa Yamoah Ponkoh, describing him as a “blatant liar”.
Sir John was seated next to Yamoah Ponkoh in the studios of Hello FM in Kumasi last Saturday when he unleashed the bombshell. Yamoah Ponkoh had earlier alleged on the programme that the NPP flagbearer, Nana Addo Danwa Akufo-Addo was not physically fit.
The controversial MCE speculated that the NPP leader collapsed during his campaign tour of Kumawu in the Ashanti Region recently.
Before the foul-mouthed Yamoah Ponkoh could land, Sir John bumped and stated that “you are liar.” He said Yamoah Ponkoh’s stock of trade was to peddle falsehoods just to tarnish the image of respectable people in society like Nana Akufo-Addo so the public should not take him serious.
According to the NPP general secretary, he was with Nana Akufo-Addo when he toured the region and nothing of that sort happened.Other members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Garden City had been spreading rumours that Nana Akufo-Addo collapsed during his tour of Ashanti Region.
Some NDC communication members, including one Onasis, even wrote on his facebook wall that Nana Akufo-Addo collapsed during his tour of the area.Sir John, however, insisted that Nana Akufo-Addo did not collapse when he visited the area so nobody should believe the NDC rumours.
According to him, speculations that Nana Akufo-Addo collapsed was one of the numerous NDC foul tactics to blindfold the electorate from the realities of life like the adverse hardships in the country presently.
Sir John who sounded irritated over Yamoah Ponkoh’s comment said Nana Akufo-Addo was physically strong, citing the NPP leader’s vigorous campaign across the country since he was elected flagberaer two years ago to buttress his claim.
Meanwhile, host of the programme on Hello FM, King Edward pushed Yamoah Ponkoh to substantiate his allegation that Nana Akufo-Addo collapsed when he visited the area, but the MCE could not.
The controversial MDC could only say, “I will not comment on this issue again,” appealing to the host of the show to let him do justice to the topics for discussion on the day instead.Since Yamoah Ponkoh could not substantiate his claim, King Edward stated emphatically that Hello FM as a station does not disassociate itself from the rumours peddled by the NDC MCE.
Later on, some people that spoke to Daily Guide on the matter charged the NPP leadership to take legal action against Yamoah Ponkoh for tarnishing the image of their leader and political mentor, Nana Akufo-Addo.
