Sir John: Ten of Duncan-Williams cannot help John Mahama

The General Secretary of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) says no amount of prayers from Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams can salvage the economy so long as President John Mahama is at the helm of affairs.

“Prayers alone cannot help John Mahama. Ten of Duncan-Williams cannot help John Mahama. It’s the NPP [that] will rescue this country from the quagmire [in which] we find ourselves and I have no doubt at all”, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie told XYZ News Thursday.

According to him, “now you could see that Ghanaians are suffering. There’s too much suffering in the land. Now this Government has no clue [about] what is happening”, Sir John, as Mr. Owusu Afriyie is called.

The local currency has fallen sharply against other foreign currencies in the last six weeks. It has depreciated by about 7 percent since January 2014.

The continuous reduction of the Cedi’s value against the dollar and other major international currencies of trade got the Clergy concerned to the extent that the General Overseer of the Christian Action Faith Ministries (CAFM) led his congregation to pray for the Cedi’s recovery two weeks ago.

Other Clergy, including the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, Ghana, Most Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante, as well as Nigerian Pastor, T.B. Joshua have also underscored the need for divine intervention in saving the Cedi.

Sir John, however, believes the problems confronting the economy are one of incompetence rather than spiritual.
