Sir John cautions NPP

Former General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie has warned party leaders against exposing the party to public scrutiny through “divisive” comments.

The party has been engrossed in internal wrangling after some national executives led by the first national Vice Chairman Freddie Blay superintended over a Steering Committee meeting without the knowledge of the general secretary and the national chairman.

The secretary, Kwabena Agyepong, last week stated the simmering tensions in the party are part of a grand scheme by some executives to undermine him and the national chairman Paul Afoko.

These comments, according to Sir John, could cost the party in the 2016 elections.

“Everybody in this country is opposed to the way that we appear to be tearing each other apart and my advice is that for the sake of the voters, for the sake of the ordinary Ghanaian who wants change, we must put ourselves together and I will also advise the leadership to be circumspect in the ways they speak and the way they come on radio to tear each other apart,” he told Accra-based Citi FM.
