An elder of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Amoako Tuffour has described the death of former general secretary Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie aka Sir John as a painful loss to the party and Ghana as a whole.

Dr. Tuffour who said he could not sleep after hearing the news said the elephant fraternity has lost a great communicator and political gem who was just rising to the peak of his political career.

When asked if the late Sir John completed his political task on earth, he said no indicating that Sir John was just on his way to achieving greater political goals.

He told Rainbow Radio’s Kwabena Agyapong that the party has lost an asset that could have contributed immensely to the victory of the NPP in the 2020 general polls.

He said Sir John was loved by all because he was always ready to serve in whatever capacity.

Dr. Tuffour believes Sir John served his party and Ghana to his best abilities.

Meanwhile, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has described the late Sir John as a good man who he will miss.

He tweeted saying: "I have learnt with sadness the passing of Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie aka Sir John, former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party and Chief Executive Officer of the Forestry Commission. I spoke with Sir John only yesterday but little did I know that was our last conversation.
Sir John was a good man who truly paid his dues to the Party and Ghana. I will miss him. My heartfelt condolences to his family. Rest in peace, my good friend.”

Sir John died on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, after an illness.

The former general secretary of the NPP recently lost a sister of his and went to perform the one-week rites at his hometown, Wonoo in the Ashanti Region.
