The Sissala East District Assembly would achieve its revenue target, mobilsing 281,981.88 Ghana cedis between January and August this year through internally generated activities.
The figure represents 66.19 per cent of its annual estimated amount of 426,010.00 Ghana cedis, Mr. Johnson Saborh, Sissala East District Chief Executive has announced.
The amount was spent in the construction of a volleyball court in Tumu and a school block at Navrowie, rehabilitation of the Saint Gabriel School, mechanization of a borehole and the provision of 4,000 Ghana cedis to the Tumu Water Board at a total cost of 27,015.00 Ghana cedis.
Mr. Saborh who announced this during the secondary ordinary session of the Assembly in Tumu, said the District was well endowed with resources and had the potential to mobilise more revenue to undertake development projects.
He said a Revenue Mobilisation Monitoring Team had been put in place to beef up the revenue mobilisation efforts of the Assembly and area councils.
The District Chief Executive said the Assembly’s tipper truck had been repaired at a cost of 14,308.75 Ghana cedis and it had generated an amount of 11,500.00 Ghana cedis into the coffers of the Assembly.
On sustainable rural water and sanitation project, Mr. Saborh said the World Bank and the Community, Water and Sanitation Agency had allocated 55 boreholes to be drilled in the District.
He said of the 55 boreholes drilled, 49 had been successful, while a small town water system would be constructed at Wellembelle community.
Under the District Development Facility (DDF), the Assembly was constructing a community library at Wellembelle and semi-detach teacher’s quarters at Nabulo.
The DDF was also providing an office block with ancillary facilities for the Ghana Fire Service in Tumu, a Community Based Health and Planning Service (CHPS) Compound for Bandei, Sakalu, and Timbaga.
Mr. Saborh said a transit quarters would be built for service personnel at Tumu while 10 boreholes would also be rehabilitated under the DDF.
Some furniture had been provided for Dagbasu and Vamboi community schools as well as the Midwifery School in Tumu under the DDF.
The District Chief Executive called on the assembly members to take holistic assessment of the development situation, and critically examine the challenges that had the potential to impede service delivery of the Assembly.
