The Sissala West District Assembly has presented five motor bikes procured at a total cost of GH¢25,000.00 to the District Education Directorate to improve on the general performance of education in the district.
The motor bikes, which are to be given to Circuit Supervisors, are expected to help them improve their monitoring of schools to ensure effective teaching and learning.
Mr. Moses Dramani Luri,Sissala West District Chief Executive (DCE), who presented the motor bikes to Madam Dogber Stella, Acting District Director of Education, said the assembly was worried about the poor performance of students in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the district over the last three years.
Mr. Luri explained that the poor performance at the BECE had caused the Assembly to put in some measures including the procurement of the five motor bikes for Circuit Supervisors to enhance their monitoring activities.
He appealed to the Education Directorate to ensure proper use of the motor bikes including routine maintenance to enable them to last longer.
Mr. Luri said as part of measures by the government to improve on education in the district, a 2-storey building office complex had been provided by the Ghana Education Trust Fund to accommodate the Education Directorate.
Other measures include the revamping of the School Performance Appraisal Meeting (SPAM and the District Education Oversight Committee, the institutionalisation of an award scheme for best school, student and the best teacher.
Twenty-six newly trained teachers had also been posted to the district to augment the existing teacher gap.
The Assembly had also increased its teacher trainee support package from GH¢300.00 to GH¢500.00, with a corresponding increase in number of beneficiaries from 42 to 68 students while the target for 2015 is 100 students.
Mr. Luri also announced that a site had been handed over by the Buwa Traditional Council for the construction of the Zini Community Day Senior High School, awarded by the government.
Madam Stella, who received the motor bikes, thanked the Assembly for their commitment to improve on education performance in the district, adding that, the motor bikes would be put to effective use to serve the purpose.
