HiChale, a non-governmental organization (NGO) noted for its charity works towards improving the lives of rural folks particularly in Kalba and Funsi in the Savannah and Upper West Regions respectively, has once again come to the aid of the people.

Not long ago, it was about providing potable drinking water for some communities in Kalba in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district of the Savannah Region and the supply of volunteer teachers to aid teaching and learning but on Friday, September 20, 2024, the NGO decided to alleviate the suffering of some pupils within the Kalba enclave with 80 dual desks to ease their plight.

Some of the pupils who hitherto would lie down on their bellies to write can now heave a sigh of relief.

The six beneficiary communities include Yerikoi, Kporiju, Kporibatee, Gbiniyiri, Siikura, and Bundi Basic Schools.

Present at the handing over ceremony include the School Management Committee (SMC) and headteachers of the beneficiary schools, the School Improvement and Support Officer (SISO) of Kalba circuit, the Parish Priest and head of Catholic education of Kalba parish, as well as some board members of HiChale.

Emmanuel Dery Kuusani, Managing Director of HiChale, in a brief speech, reiterated the NGO's commitment to supporting education in the area as they are noted for.

He said apart from the provision of dual desks, the NGO has also supported the building of classroom blocks and has about 45 volunteering teachers in Kalba and Funsi of Wa East district in the Upper West Region all in its quest to fill the educational gaps that exist in these villages as the government cannot do it all alone.

He called for more collaborators and donors to support them in brightening the future of the kids in these rural communities which are battling a lot of challenges, especially in education.

The SISO who represented the Ghana Education office commended HiChale emphatically disclosing that the education office was very aware of the impact the NGO was having in the Kalba enclave.

He mentioned that if not for the volunteering teachers HiChale provided, some of the schools would have closed down at some point due to a lack of teachers.

He admonished the beneficiary schools to ensure proper care of the furniture as a measure to ensure they last longer while indicating their continued support to HiChale as a major stakeholder.

The various school representatives expressed their gratitude to the NGO admitting that the desks were going a long way to help their children.

They also rated the quality of the furniture saying it was the best they have seen so far.

Background:

HiChale is a new NGO that was formed in 2023 from a Church-based partnership between the people of Kalba Parish and their friends from Altenberge-Erika in Germany.

The NGO continues with the vision of this partnership, which has over four decades financed hundreds of developmental projects in the Kalba area.

These projects include educational support, water supply as in providing boreholes and dams, social support to the needy, sponsorship of students, and many others.

The HiChale NGO is formed to continue this development agenda not only in Kalba but also in Funsi in Wa East district of the Upper West Region.
