President Akufo-Addo appears 'sleeping' in a video circulated on social media President Akufo-Addo appears 'sleeping' in a video circulated on social media

Following a trending video that seems to show President Akufo-Addo sleeping during proceedings at Russia-Africa Summit, it has been insinuated that the President may be causing financial loss to the country because sleeping at events which was not part of promises made to Ghanaians.

Japhet Festus Gbede is quoted to have said “So when our President spends taxpayer’s money to go for such important meetings and sleeps like this, how do the discussions there help him and Ghana? The aspirant for the Wuxor-Have-Sremanu electoral area wondered.

In the recent widely circulated video, the President appeared to be taking a snooze even as frantic discussions were underway at Russia-Africa Summit in Russia

Social media has been agog with debates as to whether he was actually sleeping or the video is a misrepresentation. Political opponents are the main propagators of the video, insisting that the President was asleep. While supporters, argue that it may be a misleading video.

But for the aspirant, the president is lowering the image of Ghana in the comity of nations.

“He has disgraced not only himself and his family but the whole Ghana including myself,” he maintained, reiterating that sleeping was not part of his promises prior to winning the 2020 elections.

Meanwhile, US-based Ghanaian and social media commentator, Kevin Ekow Baidoo Taylor, has questioned the President’s competency, over a video from a recently held international summit.

“The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo wore a suit, tied a hanky around his wrist, hired a private jet, put in about 20 people, flew all the way to Russia and went to sleep at the African Summit.

This is no joke, the President was sitting in front and was deep sleeping, dreaming and this is the biggest embarrassment Ghana has faced.

Since Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo took office as President in the Fourth Republic of Ghana, this man has never sat through a meeting without sleeping. It’s a fact and we think we can play politics with this? This sums up the kind of government or country we have today, this man is not in charge,” he said.
