Social Education Advice

Nkoranza(B/A) March 6, GNA - Mr. Kwaku Amoah-Tutu, Nkoranza District Assistant Director of Education in-charge of schools' inspection, has called for effective collaboration of teachers and parents in the education and training of children. He was briefing the Ghana News Agency on challenges that face teachers and the low standard of education in some parts of the country.

The assistant director expressed regret about how some parents "become offended when their children were punished in schools and would even go to the extent of attacking the teachers." "Such negative attitudes and practice by parents breed indiscipline among the children," he added, stressing that they had entrusted their children in the hands of the teachers for their physical, moral and social development and should, therefore, respect their judgements.

Mr. Amoah-Tutu called on opinion leaders, including traditional authorities, assembly members and unit committees, to ensure the provision of decent accommodation for teachers to sustain their interest to serve the communities. He stressed the need for teachers to live above reproach and to be good role models so that their good image and reputation would be appreciated.

The head of the inspectorate division cautioned teachers against alcoholism, absenteeism, lateness and laziness, saying offending teachers would not be spared. Mr. Amoah-Tutu advised parents to closely monitor the movements of their children so they would not engage in hard drugs and immoral behaviour as such attitudes would have harmful effects on their future.
