WAG donates dual desks to Otumfuo Education Fund

Kumasi, Sept 15, GNA - The Ashanti Regional branch of the Woodworkers Association of Ghana (WAG) has donated 100 dual desks estimated at 22 million cedis to the Otumfuo Education Fund. The donation formed part of the Association's contribution towards uplifting educational facilities in the region, especially at the basic and second-cycle levels.

Mr Reynolds Debrah, Chairman of the Association, speaking at the presentation in Kumasi said raising the standard of education especially in Asanteman should not be the sole responsibility of one particular organisation or body. "All stakeholders in education should combine their efforts and pool their resources to support the Otumfuo Education Fund". Mr Debrah pledged the Association's commitment to liaise with the management of the fund for similar donations annually to deprived schools.

Mr Kwame Buor, Ashanti Regional Chairman of Association for Small-Scale Industries (ASSI), urged woodworkers to strive to add value to their products to boost the country's foreign exchange earnings. He said ASSI in conjunction with WAG would hold a Fair in Kumasi in the middle of next year to exhibit and effectively market their products. Nana Osei Assibey II, Deebuosohene of the Asantehene, expressed gratitude to WAG for the donation and called on the members to unite to enable the Association to achieve its objectives.
