Social distancing compliance: Kasoa traders pick spots at temporal market

Traders at the Kasoa market on Friday morning trooped to the Odupon Kpehe school park, behind the old market to select spots which will serve as their new market during the lockdown period.

The Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly announced a closed down of the old and new markets as the traders were not observing social distancing, putting both themselves and patrons at risk.

In order not to cut off their source of daily income, the assembly asked the traders to move to the school park which is more spacious to ply their trade.

The park had already been marked for traders with enough spaces in between them when they arrived.

Some had placed tables, wooden crates, tables and other things in their selected spots to protect it whilst they went to get their food items.

The market women, however, appealed to the assembly to allow them return to the main market as heir businesses will be negatively affected if they stay on the park.

They promised to abide by the social distancing directive

“This is a no man’s land so if we stay here people will do whatever they want. We are pleading with the authorities to allow us go back to the market. We will divide ourselves into two groups and rotate the days we come to the market,” one of them said.

Others were however happy with the move saying it will help them maintain enough distance between themselves at all times.
