Netizens have reacted to the destruction of parts of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s statue at Effia Nkwanta Hospital in Sekondi, in the Western region of Takoradi.

Ghanaians woke up on December 16, 2024, to the news of the destruction of part of the president's statue, which was mounted on November 6, 2024, and brought a lot of controversies and criticism.

Visuals of the statue show that the left leg has been partly damaged.

The Ghana Police Service, on the other hand, has already initiated an investigation into the incident to bring the perpetrators to book.

Following the developments, social media users, especially on X (formerly known as Twitter), have reacted to the news.

Some argue that the people behind the demolition acted illegally, while others support the destruction, raising initial criticism that the president hasn’t performed to expectations to deserve such glory.

“What’s the importance of that statue? Akufo-Addo hasn’t lived up to expectations and doesn’t deserve that statue built for him. He’s not Kwame Nkrumah. That statue is irrelevant,” a user said.

“In fact, Akufo-Addo doesn’t deserve to be honoured with anything iconic in Ghana as a country, because of his reckless, clueless, arrogant, partisan, and discriminatory inhumane attitude towards the same citizens he begged for votes. I wish we dismantle such a theft statue,” another said.

“Ghana Police, please do not waste your time on this useless Akufo-Addo statue. What did he do for Ghanaians? He came to steal and destroy.”

“I think by now President Akufo-Addo knows Ghanaians really hate him. They have wounded his statue. Sorry, daddy,” another asserted.

“This is concert news. That guy Akufo-Addo is arrogant. Can’t you people see he did nothing for the country? He brings a poor economy and wants to build just a statue for Takoradi. This is an insult to the Western region.”

The criticism continued, “I think it’s time we start this campaign to undo that insult of a statue Akufo-Addo has placed in Takoradi.”

“Salifu Amoako and his son are still walking free after destroying someone’s family, but that’s not your area of interest to investigate. The kidnapped Emirates lady, what’s up? Or do you guys say it’s not worth investigating? Send the statue to Akufo-Addo’s house.”

“If Bawumia had won Western, it would pain me, especially where Akufo-Addo and Bawumia failed to complete the Market Circle Market, the interchange, but relocated the power barge from Western to Kumasi. As if that was not enough, a statue was erected for him.”

“Arrest them all and dismantle that good-for-nothing statue of Akufo-Addo.”
