Sokode records massive turn out at immunisation centres

Sokode-Gbogame(V/R), Nov. 2, GNA - Residents of Sokode, a farming community near Ho on Wednesday defied the " Ho market day spirit" and thronged immunisation centres to immunise their children in the maiden Integrated Child Health Campaign that began nation-wide on November 01. As early as 1000 hours, long queues of more than 100 parents had immunised their children against poliomyelitis, measles and given Vitamin A Supplement at the Sokode Kpodzi Centre during a visit by the Ghana News Agency (GNA).

Some men were also seen in the queue with their children for the exercise.

Dr Prosper Dovi, Medical Officer in charge of the centre said the positive response was due to the high campaign. He said in addition to the national campaign, traditional authorities were contacted and gong gong was beaten which heightened the interest of the people.

Dr Dovi said the exercise was going on smoothly but the only problem were some parents who came to the centre without weighing cards of their children and tried to reduce their ages to be given Insecticide Treated Nets.

He said the situation threatened the purpose for which the nets were to be distributed and called on parents to do the right thing. 02 Nov. 06
