Soldiers deployed at Bawku to keep peace

About 200 soldiers have been deployed by the Ghana Armed Forces at Bawku in the Upper East Region to help restore calm to the volatile area and forestall further gunfights.

The Municipal Security Council is also considering imposing another curfew on the area if the violence continues.

Sporadic gunshots were heard in the Sagagbo community within the Municipality Friday.

According to reports, the gunmen, attempted attacking others in the area, but were prevented by the prompt response of the Police.

Bawku has witnessed several violent clashes in the past but has experienced relative peace in recent times.

Two people were killed on Monday, and several others injured in recent gunfights at Patelmeh.

Calm has returned to the area, but the Municipal Assembly says if the peace is disturbed again, the local Security Council will have no choice than to restrict people’s movement.
