The Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has disclosed that some chiefs are also involved in illegal mining activities.

Speaking in a recent interview on TV3, he stated that in his own constituency, some chiefs are involved in illegal mining activities, popularly referred to as galamsey.

"Some of the chiefs are involved in galamsey. It is not only politicians. If you want to stop this, we should be bold to speak the truth. I have a video from my own constituency; it was sad, the River Pra. I went there and interviewed the guy; they didn’t know I was the parliamentarian; they are not from there. How did you get here? They said they gave the chief two thousand cedis and a sheep. We all must be patriotic and stop this," he noted.

Discussions on illegal mining activities in the country resurfaced a few weeks ago when Ghana Water Limited disclosed that galamsey activities and the subsequent pollution of the Pra River have made it impossible to supply quality water to residents in Cape Coast and its surrounding areas in the Central Region.
