Son of KMA boss pulls gun

A SON of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) boss was made to spend some hours in the cells of the Kumasi Central Police Station on Tuesday on the orders of his father, Samuel Sarpong, information reaching DAILY GUIDE indicates.

Samuel Sarpong, a student of the Central University College (CUC), Accra, was said to have pulled a gun at the official residence of his father, threatening to kill Lance Corporal Zubiru Issaka, his father’s bodyguard.

The 25-year-old man, according to sources, pulled the gun at about 2.30pm, threatening to kill the policeman for frequently peddling lies about him to his father.

Before pulling the gun, Sarpong, according to sources, had sent a text message to his father earlier, making his intentions known to him.

His father, who was at home at the time of the incident, was said to have taken offence at the conduct of his son and also allegedly threatened to kill his son if he carried through his threat.

The KMA boss was alleged to have also pulled a gun from his bedroom and pointed it at his son, a development which created commotion in the residency at Nyhieaso, a Kumasi residential suburb.

In the course of the uproar, Mr Sarpong was said to have called in the dreaded Buffalo Unit of the Police Service to come and arrest his son and place him in custody till the following day when his anger would have dissipated.

When the Buffalo men arrived, DAILY GUIDE gathered that young Sarpong was coming out of the hall with bloody hands, a development attributed to his alleged attempt at using his hands to smash a glass door in the residence in his fiery mood.

A police source who confirmed the incident said the boy was detained overnight but his father called the Regional Commander and requested his release.

The source noted that in view of this, Sarpong, who even repeated his threat of killing the Lance Corporal in the presence of police personnel, was not charged for any offence before his release.

The source said the KMA boss ordered the police to deal ruthlessly with his son when they arrived at the residency as a means of teaching him a bitter lesson so that he would change for the better.

Checks conducted by DAILY GUIDE indicated that this was not the first time the KMA boss’s son had pulled a gun threatening to kill somebody and that some time ago, he threatened to kill one of the city guards keeping watch at his father’s official residence.
