Mr Michael Soussoudis, a businessman and politician, has been put in police custody when police found large quantities of arms, ammunition and other military accoutrement following a search at his residence on Thursday.
A statement signed by Mr. Richard Baduweh, Director of Police Public Relations, said personnel of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) who conducted the search upon a warrant impounded one AK 47 rifle with six loaded magazines and one SMG UZI rifle with four loaded magazines from the main building.
Items impounded at the boy's quarters include one P Berreta pistol with 50 pieces of fiochi ammunition, six pieces of 900 powergel explosives, three military boots, eight pairs of military uniforms, two military bullet proof jackets and one military cap.
"The police further discovered three fragmentation grenades and three smoke grenades all concealed in a biscuit box and placed under a satellite dish on top of his house," the statement added.
It said investigations are going on to determine how he came by the items and why he did not surrender them to the authorities during the two-week moratorium granted by the Ministry of the Interior.
A case docket would be prepared and handed over to the Attorney General for further action, it said.
Mr Soussoudis has been arrested twice in recent months for possession of arms and going to the house of President John Agyekum Kufuor with a weapon.
