South Dayi District Assembly confirms president's nominee

Kpeve (V/R), June 18, GNA - South Dayi District Assembly has confirmed Mr Semenu Bekui, President Mills nominee as its District Chief Executive (DCE). Mr Bekui, who polled 14 out of 17 total votes cast, was full of smiles and expressed his gratitude to the members for the confidence reposed in him.

He pledged to run an administration based on consultation and said he was happy to become the DCE to an assembly that had demonstrated that it was united and strong. Amidst the excitement, the Volta Regional Minister, Mr Joseph Amenowode, remarked: "our struggle is over at last". He said this was a unique time for the district and the region to forge ahead, saying there would be no excuses for non-performance. He added: "we all belong to the same team". Mr Amenowode told Mr Bekui that his first major task would be to unite all factions in the district in order to forge a common purpose to develop the area.

Mr Edem Asimah, Member of Parliament for South Dayi also said: "Today is a great day for me because my work had been made easier. "We had to hit the ground running, we must be united and all our aspirations will be met," he said. He was optimistic that, with collaboration from all stakeholders, within four years the district would be transformed. The election exercise saw many thronged the assembly hall of the Assembly which created congestion as those who could not find space in the hall stood outside to observe. Mr Bekui was nominated by the President to replace Mrs Perpetual Annan, whom the Assembly rejected. 18 June 09
