Special Prosecutor will hold past, present appointees to account - Akufo-Addo

Both past and present government appointees will be held to account by the Special Prosecutor’s office, President Nana Akufo-Addo has said.

“My hope and expectation is that the establishment of this office is going to be an important step in our collective determination to root out corruption in the public life of our country.

“All of us know it is a major bane in the development of Ghana, and, hopefully, this office will make sure that public officials, past and present, are held to account for their actions,” Nana Akufo-Addo said as he assented to the Act on Tuesday, 2 January at the Flagstaff House.

He also said the Office of the Special Prosecutor will ensure that “corrupt acts will no longer go without investigations, and, if necessary, sanctions, once due process has been respected.”

The bill was passed by Parliament last year as part of the government's efforts to deal with corruption in the public sector.
