St. Rose’s holds Anniversary Walk

Mrs Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong, Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, has called on parents to take an active interest in the education of their children, to enable them to grow to become useful citizens.

She said education was key to national development, and that for children to achieve education excellence, there was the need for parents to support their wards.

Mrs Appiah-Oppong made the call at the end of a Health Walk organized by members of the St Rose’s Senior High School Old Students Association in Accra on Saturday.

The walk which formed part of activities marking the 50th Anniversary celebration of the school, started from the Holy Spirit Cathedral, through some principal streets in the capital and ended at the Independence Square.

Mrs Appiah-Oppong, an old student, praised authorities of the school for achieving academic excellence over the years, and expressed the hope that the school would continue to offer the best tuition and morale education for the development of the nation.

Mrs Margaret Bangfu, Headmistress, said since its inception, the school had produced many people, some of them occupying higher positions.

She said lack of accommodation for students and other infrastructural development were hampering effective teaching and learning, and called for support for the school.

Mrs Grace Brew, President of the Association, said it has been able to refurbish the Old Pavilion, and provided the school with a 78-seater capacity computer laboratory, and also a two-bedroom Staff Bungalow.

She said the Association would continue to contribute meaningfully towards the developmental needs of the school.

The Reverend George Amoako-Nimako, Chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), said the Association had provided the school with a generator and had also sank a borehole to ensure regular supply of water.

He said plans were very far advanced for the Association to provide the school with an overhead water tank, and also provide a fence wall for the school.
